The Graphic Novels You Simply Have To See

Hello Book Dragons!

We have curated a list of our absolute favourite graphic novels so that we can share them with you and hopefully, add a few things to your TBRs!

The Girl From The Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag

This is a beautiful LGBTQ+ read about a romance found between a mermaid and a human. The illustrations are so serene and delicate and you can't help but feel a sense of peace when reading it. You will fall in love with the characters and their journey and you will most definitely want more by the end of it. Words can't describe how heart-warming this tale is.

War of the Worlds: Unicorns vs. Mermaids by Benjamin Harper

Now, if you want something super fun and super cute, this is your next read! Not only is it a retelling of a classic sci-fi story, it has unicorns and mermaids! The artwork is outstanding and the reworking of the plot to suit the different species is incredible. You won't find a retelling out there that is as fun and imaginative as this one!

The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen

Another LGBTQ+ read but this one follow the journey of young Tien Phong who wants to let his loved ones know that he is gay. This is very difficult in regards to his Vietnamese mother who doesn't speak much English - and to make it even harder, there is no word for 'gay' in Vietnamese. So, he decides to come out to her using the fairy tales she used to read to him as a child, edited to give her the message he wants her to hear. I can't stress how beautiful this story is, it had me in tears for days.

An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley

Whilst a lot of us probably weren't big fans of this in school, reading it in graphic novel version is worlds apart! Not only does it make for an easier, more enjoyable read, it somehow makes it feel more dramatic! It is definitely a book that will encourage many more readers to look at classics such as this.

Hammer by Jeyodin

https://uk.bookshop.org/a/10722/9780760376836

A classic superhero saga of a young boy with superpowers who is magically transported into one of his fathers books and decides to help the kingdom he has been placed into using his hammer hands! This is a super fun read guaranteed to make you laugh and excite you!
